The all-new ŠKODA Karoq made its premier at Stolkholm on the 18th May 2017, which is set for release in late 2017.The ŠKODA 2025 future strategy involves significant expansion of the model range in the coming years, with particular focus on its SUV portfolio. The Karoq represents a major milestone and is set for launch in the second half of 2017.
The name Karoq has been based around the language of the Alutiiq tribe who are inhabitants of an Island in Alaska. The name Karoq was created by combining the Alutiiq word for 'car' which is 'kaa'raq' and 'ruq' meaning arrow - representing the symbol for ŠKODA's logo. This language was also the inspiration for the newly released Kodiaq. the names for ŠKODA's future SUV's will also follow this pattern.
ŠKODA's Karoq showcases with its individual brand identity alongside its resembling product identity. ŠKODA are taking the next steps in the SUV field. Inside the Karoq you have brilliant LED ambient lighting found in the décor strips of the doors and dashboard, they can be set in 10 different colours.
Sharing the same striking design language as its stablemate the Kodiaq, the front and rear lights on the brand new compact SUV once again draw their inspiration from Bohemian crystal glass art. The ŠKODA Karoq boasts LED headlights and eight lighting strips giving a unique appearance. At the back, the taillights, also LED, form the trademark 'C' shape found on all ŠKODA vehicles.
The compact SUV measures 4,382 mm in length, is 1,841 mm wide, and 1,605 mm high. The increase in size benefits the passengers too with 69mm worth of kneeroom. The long wheelbase of 2,638 mm (all-wheel version: 2,630 mm) gives the ŠKODA KAROQ a comfortable stance on the road and provides an indication of the generously proportioned interior.
In its compact body, The ŠKODA Karoq encompasses everything typical of ŠKODA cars – the largest luggage compartment in its class, the highest degree of functionality, and a great many ‘Simply Clever’ solutions, all wrapped in gorgeous design.
This newest member of the ŠKODA family is the first to incorporate a fully digital and freely programmable instrument panel capable of displaying all important information right on the dashboard, a first for ŠKODA, as well as the newest-generation infotainment system with up to 9.2" display.
ŠKODA haven’t forgotten about functionality inside the Karoq where you’ll find an umbrella under the passenger’s seat, an ice scraper in the fuel tank cap, a detachable flashlight in the luggage compartment and many practical stowing areas.
The ŠKODA Karoq offers the latest in engine technology, with five engine variants – two petrol and three diesel engines on offer. The two petrol engines and two diesels are new in the line-up. The displacement ranges are 1.0, 1.5, 1.6 and 2.0 l; the power range is from 85 kW (115 PS) to 140 kW (190 PS). All powertrains feature turbo-charged direct injection units and include start/stop technology and brake energy recovery, making the new ŠKODA Karoq efficient, and complies with strict Euro6 regulations. With the exception of the most powerful diesel, all drivetrains can be ordered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or 7-speed DSG. The 2.0 TDI with 140 kW (190 PS) comes as standard with 4×4 drive and 7-speed DSG. The new 1.5 TSI has the special feature of cylinder deactivation.
New ŠKODA Driver Modes
The ŠKODA Karoq chassis also sets benchmarks in its segment and demonstrates its quality, even off the beaten track. Available with Driving Mode Select, the Karoq has 5 options including, the Normal, Sport, Eco, Individual and Snow (4×4) modes available on request. The Off-Road mode with all-wheel drive improves the driving characteristics on rough terrain.
Featuring the latest in automotive technology, the ŠKODA Karoq, comes with a host of features for driver assistance and infotainment.
Taking the center stage on the dash, the ŠKODA Karoq's new 9.2" full-colour display, allowing you to keep up-to-date with traffic conditions, weather, navigation, take calls, read messages, play music. It does this by supporting the latest in connectivity solutions, including SmartLink+, which uses AppleCarPlay or Android Auto.
New Digital Instrument Panel
The Karoq also features a brand-new digital instrument panel, which informs the driver of speed, distance travelled, fuel consumption, as well as a navigation system, allowing you to keep your eyes on the road.
Personalisation as soon as you take a seat
The new Karoq’s settings can also individually tailored for up to three drivers, allowing them to easily set up to 200 of the vehicle’s parameters. These include settings of the infotainment, air conditioning, driving assistants and seats. Based on the key, the vehicle automatically recognises the driver and adjusts all the settings on its own.
Driver Assistance Systems
The ŠKODA Karoq offers a comprehensive range of driver assistance systems. New comfort systems include Park Assist, Lane Assist and Traffic Jam Assist. Blind Spot Detect, Front Assist with predictive pedestrian protection and Emergency Assist serve to increase safety.
Additional driver assistance systems are available for the ŠKODA Karoq to keep the car at a safe distance from the car ahead, to make it easier for the driver to change and keep in lane, to point out important traffic signs, and to assist when parking.
In case of emergency, the Karoq can automatically initiate an emergency call. Drivers also have direct connection with ŠKODA Service at their disposal in order to answer any questions concerning the car.
